Like many ribbon microphones, it is characterized by its clean recording behavior with a subtle attenuation of bass frequencies, which counteracts a very low-pitched hum when recording particularly close up. For optimally positioned stereo recording in the so-called Blumlein stereo system, the two R14 microphones that make up the head of the SR14 can be rotated ninety degrees to each other and mounted on top of each other, but other stereo techniques are also possible. A specially tuned output transformer ensures balanced and clean signals. Acoustically, the SR 14 is characterised by its full, warm and silky-smooth recording characteristics, as is usual for ribbon microphones, and despite the discreet low-end roll-off, it is still rich in bass in the stereo image. Its relatively undistorted, natural recording behaviour responds particularly well to the equaliser. High-quality materials for the housing and microphone capsule, the finest neodymium magnets and hardly any plastic parts make the SR 14 a faithful companion for stereo recordings in every conceivable instrumental or vocal application. It is supplied in an elegant wooden case together with a stainless steel microphone spider, a stereo matrix and a 7-pin connection cable in a sturdy case.
