With various functions such as compressor, limiter, gate, expander and de-esser, the SSL 500 B dynamics console can be used in a variety of ways. In addition, it offers a side-chain high-pass filter. Through the link function of some 500 racks it is possible to sum up the side chain over adjacent Module , whereby the Module then act like a stereo pair. Controls The console offers a ratio of 2:1, 4:1, 10:1 as well as an Out position and a DS position. The side chain is activated by a DS ratio of 10:1. Release times are 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.6 seconds and an auto mode can activate a "program-related" Release time. The Treshold is adjustable via a knob, just like Ratio and Release . The SSL 500 B dynamics module has a treshold range from -30 dB to +10 dB. The two vertical LED columns located on the top left of the module indicate dynamic activity. The row of green LEDs on the left indicates gate/expander activity, while the red LEDs on the right visually represent compressor/limiter operation.
