The Millenium III Mechanics The Millennium III mechanics consists of components made of ABS carbon, a composite material created by the incorporation of carbon fiber into ABS plastic. ABS carbon is incredibly tough and stiff, allowing the manufacture of lighter mechanical parts without compromising strength. The result is a stronger and faster mechanic that offers more power, better control and greater stability than conventional solid wood mechanics. Longer keys Longer keys make playing easier and ensure a more even response from front to back on the playing surface. A higher profile and concert length keys make them stiffer and provide exceptionally effective power transfer and optimal performance. CORE system CORE means "Convergence for Optimum Reflected Energy". Convergence refers to the way in which the power centers of the piano - rim, plate, and underbody - all concentrate on a central point in the heart of the instrument. This focus creates an incredibly strong "core" base that maximizes the reflectivity of the inner edge for outstanding sound power and sustain. Tapered solid spruce soundboard The soundboard is the heart of a piano. The aim is to transform the vibrations of the piano strings into a rich, powerful sound. Kawai uses only straight-grained, solid spruce sawn every three months for the GL series soundboards. Each is strategically tapered to ensure the right level of resonance movement in each region. Only soundboards that meet or exceed Kawai's high resonance requirements are selected for use in the GL series grand pianos. SOLID (Stretcher Over-Lap Integrated Design) The SOLID construction provides an exceptionally stiff foundation to support string tension. First the pin block is mounted on the plate. The pin block and the overlapping clamping bar are then combined into a single structure and firmly anchored to the rim. The exceptional thickness of the clamping bar reinforces the stability of this robust framework, which provides stable tuning and a powerful sound. V-per plate The plate is the acoustically neutral iron superstructure of the piano over which the strings are stretched. All plates of the GL series are formed according to the Vacuum Mold Process (V-Pro) with "Crossbone Design". The result is a plate that is strong, stable and beautiful.
