The innovative features from the Mapex Design Lab series include SONIClear™ Bearing Edges, Static 90° Floor Tom Legs, Air Flow Venting and Isolation Gasket. The Mapex Saturn series combines the proven formula with unique innovations. The elaborately lacquered finishes in combination with the chrome-plated hardware, Remo heads and power hoops offer an all-round harmonious overall picture for professional drummers. Design Lab features on the Mapex Saturn The Mapex Saturn series impresses with four innovative features from the Mapex Design Lab series. The three SAS Static 90° Floor Tom Legs offer longer sustain, as a straight floor Tom leg partially eliminates frequencies, actively counteracting this. The Sonic Pedestal Foots are equipped with an air suspension, which maximises vibration transmission and shell resonance. All metal parts of the floor Tom are located entirely on the outside of the shell and are insulated by a rubber lift seal. These Floor Tom Isolation Gaskets remove all pressure from the boiler and reduce vibration loss. Air Flow Venting describes the key to the perfect playing feel. Extensive tests have determined the perfect arrangement and number of air holes for a particular drum shell. Hybrid shells made of maple/walnut: Mapex Saturn 6 Shellset Like their predecessors, the current Saturn drum shells are 6/8-ply hybrids made of maple and walnut. This results in a shell thickness of 6 mm for the tom and floor tom and 8 mm for the bass drum. The Toms shells are covered with Remo Clear Emperor heads, while the Bass Drum is topped with a Remo Powerstroke 3 head. Of course, all shells are still equipped with the proven Mapex Soniclear™ Bearing Edge. This is rounded on the outside and enables an easy tuning process as well as a deeper pitch, as the head collar lies better on the burr. The Finish offers a high-quality look, especially in combination with the chrome-plated Locking B Lugs.
