The module uses FOF synthesis (fonction d'onde formantique), which was originally developed in 1980 for computer systems and is intended to generate formant sounds. The oscillator generates its sounds from two so-called elements, which primarily provide the fundamental waveforms sine or square and are also continuously mixable. Each element is adjustable over a wide range and can also be modulated via control voltage. By means of warp, ratio and damping, waveforms are created that in their complexity are more reminiscent of Wavetables than of the classic waveforms of an analog synthesizer. The overtone content of these waveforms is enormous and has an unusual range of effect, especially if you modulate element A with element B, for example. The connections of the module are kept versatile. Each controlling element has its own CV input; three additional inputs for Tracking and FM complete the modulation possibilities. Sofia's main output provides the complex waveform resulting from the two elements. Fund(amential) Out is a pure sine waveform "without extras". Out A and B are the individual outputs of the two elements, this is also where cross modulation within the module and distribution in the stereo field of both waveforms results. Impulse A and B are the outputs of the two decay envelopes, which are hidden behind the Damping parameter and contribute significantly to the sound shaping within the elements.
