The UAD-2 Satellite USB Octo Ultimate 4 is a powerful hardware DSP system that enables the use of Universal Audio's UAD and UAD-2 plug-ins - plug-ins that are exclusively available on the UAD platform. It has 8 SHARC processors built in, which serve to relieve the CPU of the host computer while using UAD plug-ins. The external DSP is necessary because the UAD plug-ins are not ordinary plug-ins, but physical models of the respective emulated hardware devices. Each individual analog component was measured by and and its properties digitally modeled. These physical models behave almost identically to their analog counterparts and therefore sound closer to the original than any other plugin. However, they also require a great deal of computing power to operate, which would place a massive load on the host computer. The UAD Satellite provides a remedy for this and calculates the plug-ins externally on specially developed processors. Interface and plug-in bundle Users of the UAD-2 Satellite USB can create and edit large, professional mixes with the detailed analog character of UAD and UAD-2 plug-ins - including exclusive devices from Neve, Fender, Lexicon, Studer and many others. The system comes with a USB 3.0 interface and a selection of 83 UAD plug-ins from Universal Audio (Ultimate 4 Bundle). It is therefore suitable for mixing large sessions and, thanks to the large selection of plug-ins, can be used in any genre.
