In 1968 the D-55 was presented for the first time as a top class special model and has enjoyed growing popularity ever since. Accordingly, this all-massive Dreadnought in classic style has an "AAA" Sitka spruce top, an Indian Palisander body, a fingerboard and bridge made of ebony and a wafer-thin nitro finish. Internal refinements include the scalloped Adirondack bracing, as well as an improved dovetail neck joint that was handcrafted to make this generation of the D-55 the lightest, loudest and best sounding. In addition, a compensated bridge insert made of bone ensures optimum resonance transmission and a flat string position, while gold-plated Gotoh SE700 tuners keep the tuning clean. The Guild D-55 is also suitable for the stage thanks to its L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup system, which reproduces the outstanding sound of the guitar with natural dynamics and harmonic balance.
