The SSL E-Series 611DYN is a dynamics module taken from the channel strip of the SL4000 E console and is available now for the 500 series format. Designed in and produced throughout the '80s, the 611DYN formed part of the channel strip of the console providing per track dynamics and includes a compressor/limiter as well as an expander/gate and remains faithful to the original circuitry. The sound of this module is famous for being extremely versatile, fat and punchy, as well as smooth and transparent. The E-Series 611DYN features the standard, variable ratio threshold and release controls in the compressor section, alongside a switchable fast attack. There is also a switch to change the release curve from logarithmic (as used in the original) to linear. The 611DYN 500 series uses a CLASS A VCA chip for the gain reduction element and features a sidechain which lets the bottom end pass before the rest of the signal is compressed. The gain section features fully variable controls for range, threshold and release as well as a fast attack switch and an option to change it from a gate into an expander.
