Description
For those who like acidity and so-called "fresh" wines, Chenin Blanc, a white grape variety native to the Loire Valley in France, will be tasted sooner or later. Its distinguishing feature, in fact, is precisely the distinct freshness that makes it ideal for more than one occasion. The Vouvray region, in particular, is home to some of the most interesting Chenin, characterized by intense notes of ripe, tropical fruit. Like this Les Vaux Louis from Domaine Sylvain Gaudron. We are in the area at the eastern limits of the Touraine, an area covering 7 communes on the right bank of the Loire and the edge of its tributary, the Brenne. The grape variety, as anticipated is 100% Chenin blanc, harvested in vineyards that are characterized by distinctive stony, tuffaceous soils interspersed with areas richly populated with siliceous clays that give the finished wine a mineral character. Straw yellow its color, the nose reveals itself as intriguing and complex, with notes of ripe fruit well intertwined with hints of stone and chalk. A fine, quality nose. In the mouth, it is dry and well-structured. Rich and especially juicy, with pear and quince aromas enriched by an intense chalky minerality. Perfect with spicy dishes, try it with Peking duck.
